Passive hearing protection is cheaper, involves no electronic circuit or batteries, and is sufficient in many situations. However, it is not selective in its attenuation, lowering both low and high sounds. That results in conversation and other important yet not too-loud sounds being drowned and lost.

Electronic hearing protection uses a battery-powered electronic circuit that samples your surrounding sound levels in real-time. Safe sound levels are passed through to your eardrums “as-is”, with no attenuation (reduction) or amplification.

However, the moment sound levels become too high – the hearing protection kicks in and automatically attenuates (reduces) the sound levels that reach your eardrums.

That means you can keep your hearing protection in at all times in the shooting range. When talking to your instructor – you’ll hear them clearly and naturally when no loud background noise is present. When you or someone nearby shoots, or continuous noise from vehicles or machinery becomes present – you are protected automatically!

Dual-Mode Operation

Automatic Hearing Protection + Blast Protection Mode:

· Allows natural hearing up to 60dB of input sounds (normal conversation or background music levels).

· Provides 15 dB of automatic noise reduction of sounds between 70dB to 115dB – from sources such as vehicle traffic, power tools, lawn mower.

· 40 dB noise reduction to protect from blasts and other very loud noises 120dB and over – from sources such as gun shots.

Hearing Enhancement + Blast Protection Mode:

· Amplifies up to 5X (approx. 14 dB acoustic gain) in the 40dB to 60dB range of input sound – soft to normal conversation levels.

· 35 dB noise reduction to protect from blasts and other very loud noises 120dB and over – from sources such as gun shots.

Which mode is right for me?

Both modes will protect your hearing from dangerously loud noise levels and blasts, such as gun shots. The modes differ in safe noise levels, such as normal conversation. Hearing Protection mode will let the conversation in your ears, as if you are wearing no protection. The Hearing Enhancement mode will behave as a hearing aid and amplify the conversation.

The right mode for you depends on whether you need, or want, conversation enhancement or not.

How long is the charge?

Charges earplugs last up to 16 hours per charge and a fully charged case can charge earplugs up to 20 times.

Is it waterproof and dustproof?

The GSE is IP67 rated. IP stands for "Ingress Protection" and serves as the International Protection Marking.

Developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), IP ratings indicate how well a product protects against the entrance of solid or liquid particles, mainly dust and water.

In all IP ratings, the IP is followed by two digits. The first digit represents how well a product protects against solids, and the second digit represents how well it protects against liquids in varying volumes, pressures, and temperatures.

The first digit ranges from 1 through 6, and the second digit ranges from 1 through 9.

Solid Object Ingress: Ingress of solid objects covers a wide spectrum of hazards. On one end is accidental contact with a device’s components from workers’ hands, tools or other large objects. On the other is the intrusion of fine particles like dust, soil and sand. Both can cause significant damage to a device’s connectors, printed circuit boards and components and impair its operation.

Liquid Ingress: Ingress of liquids includes everything from simple accidental dripping to splashing and hose-directed water, all the way up to prolonged submersion in over one meter of water. Liquid ingress is one of the biggest hazards for electronic devices, so it’s key to get the right degree of protection for your enclosure.

IP67 indicates the product’s enclosure is waterproof:

· The 6 indicates total protection against dust over extended time, as well as protection against contact with objects greater than 1mm in diameter, such as a wire or a small tool.

· The 7 indicates the system is protected against short periods of immersion in water while under pressure between 15cm and 1m. Duration of test 30 minutes.

Works great for me! I can hear much better the sounds around when not shooting – especially helpful in the dark woods. When I do shoot the burst is immediately muffled so that I practically don’t hear it. Fntastic.  Recommend everyone hunting.

New Ear Protection

These hearing protectors are everything they're claimed to be. They work extremely well at both high sound level protection, as well as amplifying low level sounds. Having a rechargeable solution rather than constantly replacing batteries was worth the extra price of this product.

If I could make only two suggestions to improve this product, they would be the following:

1) Having software or an application that provides the ability to fine tune the sound equalization of each earpiece, to better match the end-user's natural hearing.

2) Adding Bluetooth capability. This would both allow connectivity to the units to perform the sound equalization function I mentioned above and they could also be used as "ear buds" to connect to your iPhone and allow answering a phone call or listening to music.

Other than those two feature additions, this is a solid product.... Thank you for making them!

Getting into higher volume shooting, want better protection

These are amazing. The projection happens in the background so smoothly, and given their light-weight and perfect form factor, I can forget that i have them on. I have referred others to buy these, and have even given a set as a Christmas present to my brother. If you can make the investment, these take ear protection and the experience of shooting, to the next level.
