Objective Assessment of Hearing Function – Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR, BAEP)


Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR), also called Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potentials (BAEP) test is the gold standard for evaluating hearing impairment in animals.  It allows quickly and accurately assess hearing, diagnose hearing loss, monitor hearing to prevent hearing loss caused by ototoxicity.  During the test, the electrical response of the auditory system to the auditory stimulus is recorded.  


ABR test is minimally invasive and therefore can be used in young animal patients (three weeks and above).  To prevent excessive muscular artifacts during the test, the animal should be slightly sedated.

Flexible Test Parameters


Neuro-Audio-V allows recording ABR using insert earphones (supplied with the system) or headphones (supplied upon request).  Insert earphones are especially helpful when the animal ear is difficult to access.


High-Quality ABR Recording


Sophisticated performance characteristics (low-noise amplifier) and intelligent software (adaptive notch filter, weighted average, Chirp stimulus, signal-to-noise ratio, advanced algorithms for response detection and other features) help a specialist to obtain excellent-quality ABR recording easily and save valuable time.


Chirp stimulus is designed to compensate for the temporal dispersion in the cochlea related to the traveling wave delay along the cochlea, and thus, elicit a generalized response with greater amplitude than click stimulus.


Suitable for daily clinical practice and experimental research


Exceptionally high-quality low-noise physiological preamplifiers, protected from electromagnetic interferences, combined with high-efficiency digital filters and effective digital signal-processing algorithms, were specifically designed for Neuro-Audio-V based on extensive research and development.  They ensure excellent noise suppression, clear ERG recording, and reliable, reproducible calculation of ABR parameters.


This allows not only high-quality diagnostic testing, but also reliable monitoring for any changes in follow-up auditory assessments over prolonged periods of time, particularly for ototoxicity monitoring.

Intelligent software


The supplied software features an efficient signal-processing algorithm.  It ensures automatic high-quality ABR recording and averaging simultaneously in two buffers, calculation of all ABR wave parameters – ABR wave peak marking, calculating numeric values of peak amplitude and latency, and inter-peak intervals.


Intra-operative ABR monitoring


Designed to work in the electro-magnetically harsh OR environment, Neuro-Audio-V can be used as a reliable ABR monitor during surgery and post-operative outcome assessment.




Test reports can be easily generated on-screen right in the software, stored along with test results, printed out, and shared.


Database and data export


ABR measurement data and interpretation, as well as exam reports, are saved in a well-organized software database.  The data and reports can be printed out either at the time of the assessment, or at a later time, and shared with a referring doctor or researcher.

ABR parameters can be exported to Excel spreadsheets and other statistical software for further data analysis making it an ideal tool for research projects.


Portability – compact and lightweight


Compact and lightweight, Neuro-Audio-V is perfect for carry-around applications. It is well organized in the same bag with a notebook and the necessary accessories. The system is simply connected to PC via the USB cable which ensures both system power supply and data transfer.


The device is pocket-sized, and can be placed in a Carrying Case – along with a notebook computer – and can be powered from the computer.  Hence, it can be used both in the clinic and on an outpatient visit.


Software compatibility


Neurosoft Software enables highly efficient operation – saving both capital and operating costs – through a number of compatibility features:


Multiple Neurosoft Software:  Neurosoft Software for various Neurosoft instruments can be installed on the same computer – with no conflict between them.  Moreover, all software can share a single database – for greater convenience and work-flow efficiency.


Multiple computers:  Although only one computer can be used for diagnostic test data recording, each Neurosoft Software License allows using software on an unlimited number of computers.  Thus, the data can be recorded on one computer, and then, the data can be shared, analyzed, reviewed on other computers – with no additional Software Licenses.


Other applications:  Neurosoft Software can operate on a computer with Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Project, as well as Adobe and accounting software.  This is particularly efficient in smaller clinics.


Internet:  Computers with Neurosoft Software installed can be connected to the Internet.  In an unlikely and rare event that a Microsoft Operating System update affects a Neurosoft software component, it can be restored by Neurosoft software re-installation, with no loss of data. 


Information system integration


Most clinics, networks and research institutions are equipped with information systems to store and process their data.  HL7 (Health Level 7) is the most commonly used interface engine for exchange, integration, sharing and retrieval of electronic data.


HL7-compatibility allows integrating Neuro-IOM-16-V into the information system of a veterinary clinic, clinical network, or research institution.




Electronic Unit – soft cloth gently wrung in phenols (Bacillotex® etc.), or 70% alcohol, or 0.5% chlorohexidine.


If dangerous virus contamination is suspected – aldehydes (Cidex® etc.), or chlorinates (Diversol BX® etc.).


Interface cables and power cords – soft cloth moistened with disinfectant, for example, 1% chloramine solution or 3% hydrogen peroxide solution.

Electrical Safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility


Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is ensured by compliance with IEC 60601-1-2:2014 requirements.


The system is intended for operation in the electromagnetic environment conditions which are specified in Annex 1 “Electromagnetic Emission and Immunity”.


Do not use the system when other equipment is under or above it or when the system in close proximity to other equipment.  However, if it is required, the correct operation of the system should be verified.


Portable and mobile RF communication equipment can affect the system work.  Do not use these devices less than 30 cm from any part of the system (including the cables) to avoid incorrect operation.


The use of the equipment not listed in Table 2 and Table 3 of the Technical Manual may result in increase of emission and reduce of immunity of the system.


For safety, the system complies with IEC 60601-1:2012 requirements.  The electronic units are supplied by regulated power supply through USB interface, have double isolation and BF type applied parts according to IEC 60601-1:2012.

NOTE:  Computer (PC) is not included in Standard Set, but can be supplied as per Customer requirements.


Minimum requirements to PC:


· For the software based on Microsoft .NET platform dual core processor with ≥ 2.6 GHz clock rate and random-access memory (RAM) of ≥ 2 GB is required (4 GB is recommended).  For other software, the clock rate is desired to be ≥ 1200 MHz and RAM ≥ 512 MB.


· Either Windows 8 or Windows 10 operating system is required.  Both 32-bit and 64-bit editions are supported.


· A ground wire must be available as the third wire of the power outlet.  It is not allowed to connect the computers using adaptors that insulate the third wire.

Electronic Unit limited warranty term – 2 years.


During the warranty term, repair is free, and if repair is impossible, Electronic Unit is replaced.  Warranty does not cover mechanical damage and unauthorized opening of Electronic Unit, and defects caused by misuse, and any product that has been altered or modified in any way.


Warranty repair is professionally performed at the Neurosoft Service Center in Ivanovo, RF.  Transportation costs to the Service Center are covered by the Customer, return transportation is covered by Neurosoft.


Customer pays return shipping charges.  We are responsible for the return shipping charges of replaced / repaired products.  Products found to be non-defective will be returned at customer's expense.

Single-use items (electrodes, gels, pastes, etc.) are not covered.
